Our Projects Helping Riders Hit the Road
Light the Night
This ongoing project started in 2016 has distributed 800 sets of bike lights distributed through the Baton Rouge Police Department and others to riders without lights. (See video below!) Currently we are expanding this program to distribute lights and information packets through schools. If you are interested in donating to this program, please click here.
Bike Baton Rouge runs certified bicycle safety classes for bicyclists of all ages and skill levels. Safety classes are certified by the League of American Bicyclists. In 2016, three bicycle workshops were put on for children (elementary and middle school aged). We had 60 children enrolled in addition to their parents!
Bicycle Maintenance Classes
Since 2006, Bike Baton Rouge has hosted numerous bicycle maintenance classes to help riders tune up their rides and keep them cruising smoothly. If you are interested in signing up for a class, please check out our Facebook page.
We have installed over 20 Bike Baton Rouge custom bike racks in the city. The City of Baton Rouge has installed an additional 70 bicycle rings around the downtown area. Interested in having a rack of your own? Request a rack here!
Bike Baton Rouge has organized very popular and successful themed rides called Velo!Velo! Themes have included Day of the Dead cemetery rides, bird watching, garden tours, green businesses, and art exhibits. Rides have been in partnership with various organizations such as the Historical Society and the Arts Council.
Festival Bike Parking
Since 2006, we have encouraged people to ride to festivals downtown by offering a bike valet service. In 2016 alone over 400 bikes were parked.
Social Ride Component of Other Events
In addition to hosting stand-alone social rides, we have partnered with community event organizers to host social rides as a part of their event. Examples include leading rides as part of Better Block BR and Wonder South River Riders.
